It’s honestly quite a power move. But trees are such a core part of the game. After all, you can’t craft very much without a crafting table. And you can’t craft a crafting table without some logs. So let’s say you want to change up your trees a little bit… well here’s some of the coolest tree mods & custom texture packs out there, designed to make your forests a lot more interesting.

7. Round Trees

Check Out This Mod Supported Versions: 1.15-1.17 All of these resource pack creators clearly don’t care about the rules, because they just broke the one unspoken rule of Minecraft: nothing round! In their defense though, these round trees do look pretty darn nice. Maybe we can let it slide, just this once? With this resource pack installed, your trees will be looking so round that you’ll probably forget that you’re playing Minecraft. Instead you’ll think you’re playing…I don’t know, Agar.io? A game about circles eating circles. That’s about the roundest game I can think of.

6. Fused’s Lush Leaves (Bushy Leaves Texture Pack)

Check Out This Mod Supported Versions: 1.14, 1.16-1.17 Here’s one more texture pack, this time focused on leaves. And it’ll have your leaves looking so luscious that you won’t be able to resist living in a treehouse. Every time you see vines growing on trees? You’ll be climbing them just to get a feel of those luscious leaves. For some types of leaves, you can even switch between looks. So if you end up getting real close to those luscious leaves and you’re just not feeling them, you could switch them out for a texture that fits your taste better.

5. Timber Mod

Check Out This Mod Supported Versions: 1.16-1.17 Minecraft isn’t exactly known for having realistic physics. And this is obvious right when you start playing. When you break the bottom of a tree, you get the block, but the tree just floats. No roots. Is there a witch hut around? Because that sounds like some witchcraft! This mod makes the game slightly more realistic, by making the entire tree timber when you break the bottom. Protip: crouching while breaking a log disables this feature, so don’t accidentally timber your whole base!

4. Ore Tree

Check Out This Mod Supported Version: 1.16 Whoever said that money doesn’t grow on trees must have been playing vanilla Minecraft. Ore Trees proves this common saying wrong by allowing you to find valuable ores on trees. There are also ore saplings that allow you to grow these special trees yourself. This mod is essentially mining, but without the terrible air and claustrophobia. It could also lead to you building a very interesting tree farm.

3. Dynamic Trees

Check Out This Mod Supported Versions: 1.11-1.12, 1.16 Watching paint dry might be boring. But watching trees grow is kind of beautiful. No, not real-life trees, since that would take forever unless you were watching a timelapse. But Dynamic Trees adds in a new type of tree in Minecraft where you can actually witness it growing. Be careful though, because once they’re fully grown, you’ll be crying to your best friend about how they “grow up so fast.” There are a variety of other features in this mod to make trees more realistic and interesting too, such as allowing trees to grow around obstacles, and allowing you to climb branches like a monkey. Vanilla trees still function the same. So you won’t need a crazy computer to adopt your own little (but not for long) growing tree. And this mod also adds several new items, including a couple of potions that can be used on trees. That’s only if you’re cool with drugging your leafy child, though.

2. Tan’s Huge Trees

Check Out This Mod Supported Version: 1.12 If you’re a veteran Minecraft player, you might miss how common jungles used to be. Well this mod adds the kind of trees you miss. This mod adds Huge Trees. And really, these trees are so huge that if your computer isn’t beefy, you may need to turn your render distance down a notch when you’re around them. These trees are so huge that even monkeys get shaky legs around them. These trees are so huge that they ended deforestation. Not because fellers suddenly stopped cutting down trees due to environmental concerns, but because they simply gave up. Now imagine this mod installed along with the timber mod. It’s a good thing item drops can’t hurt your head, because it’s raining logs, baby!

1. The Twilight Forest

Check Out This Mod Supported Versions: 1.7, 1.12, 1.16 You wanted a tree mod? Well, I’ll do you one better. How about a forest mod? Actually, I’ll do you two better. How about a dimension-filled-with-this-forest mod? These aren’t your friendly neighborhood trees though. Well, actually, the trees are pretty friendly. The inhabitants, on the other hand, do not appreciate intruders. And with deforestation being such a major issue in our own dimension, can you really blame them? The portal can be made with various blocks, including dirt and flowers. Once you go in though, get ready to fight some angry monsters (and even bosses!) But try to have a little sympathy. The poor creatures just don’t want to end up endangered!
