Below Deck’s Captain Lee Rosbach opened up about his son’s accidental overdose and subsequent death. The somber Captain recently revealed to fans about how he and his family were coping after their tragic loss.

Bravo’s Below Deck premiered in 2013, following the crew members who work and live on luxury yachts that are over 100 feet long, as well as the lifestyle of the rich and famous charter guests who vacation on them. The show is currently on its seventh season, and it has no plans of ending as it has grown to become a fan favorite. A spinoff for the franchise was released called Below Deck: Mediterranean.

Captain Lee, of Below Deck, announced that his son had died of a drug overdose, according to Page Six. The Captain and his wife Mary Anne Rosbach’s son Josh had been fighting a battle with opioid addiction for over twenty years. Josh, 42, had been clean for the last six months. The famous Captain had said he thought their son had been doing well and “turned a corner.” Their son had made progress by getting himself a car, a job, and a clean record - and they truly believed he had hit a breakthrough.

Sadly, Captain Lee had decided to take a drive to his son’s Fort Lauderdale home in Florida on July 22 and found Josh dead on the couch. The veteran yacht master had thought that his son was just asleep, but upon hugging him realized he was cold to the touch. The medical examiner told the Rosbach family that Josh had relapsed on prescription opioids that happened to be laced with five different substances which included cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.

Right now, the shock of losing his son is still fresh, and the strong Bravo personality is just learning how to cope one day at a time. The Captain could not pinpoint how their son became addicted to drugs in the first place, but said it could have been due to anxiety issues that led him to self-medicate himself. For Captain Lee and his family, one way to move on from this horrific incident is by working with charities and organizations who are trying to help fight the opioid crisis in the United States.
