A new Fast & Furious Supercharged video promo allows fans to go behind the scenes on Universal Studios Orlando’s newest ride. The ride uses hydraulic technology and 3D-HD imagery, allowing fans to experience perceived speeds of 120 miles-per-hour and feel like they’re taking part in one of Dominic Toretto’s big-screen action sequences. The ride already launched at Universal Studios Hollywood (with a swanky red carpet event), and the Orlando branch is getting its own version in the spring.

These rides represent one part of Universal’s massive expansion of the Fast & Furious franchise, which is clearly a huge money-spinner for the studio. As well as the new rides in Hollywood and Florida, there is also an arena tour (which Vin Diesel will be a part of), and a planned spinoff movie for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. The as-yet-untitled spinoff is set for a 2019 release, with the next mainline Fast & Furious flick expected in 2020.

Unlike the arena show and the quite-far-off feature films – which will only last for a certain amount of time in theaters and venues - these Fast & Furious Supercharged rides are permanent income streams for Universal. Clearly, there’s some savvy business-oriented decision-making going on. Thankfully, despite the corporate-owned nature of this franchise, the rides still look like a lot of fun.

This short video showcases the sheer scale of the ride’s production, which looks every bit like the set of a feature film. Real cars and top-of-the-line special effects are being used to bring this experience to life, with Universal not skimping on the budget. Some of the visuals look a bit like computer game graphics, but this could well be a work in progress.

The footage of the ride itself, where all of the different elements blend together, looks like a whole lot of fun. Of course, for fans of the films, it means a lot that Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Ludracis all filmed material for the ride. This may well be another hit attraction for Universal.

Still, as interesting as it is to see behind the scenes on this ride, the off-camera drama currently surrounding the Fast & Furious film franchise offers entertainment on a whole different level. Most recently, after voicing his concerns about Johnson’s spinoff project, Gibson has threatened to quit the series if Johnson comes back for Fast & Furious 9. At times, keeping up with the twists and turns of the ‘fast family’ drama feels like a rollercoaster.
